My new student Lilly had a lesson this morning. One of her activities was to arrange the magnet keys like a real piano and then make up her own. Look what she sent a few hours later! I’d love to play that piano!

Barbara Bryner Gill--Whether playing the piano or singing, Barbara has always enjoyed making music. She holds two music degrees from the University of Utah: a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, and a Master of Arts in Musicology. Barbara regularly performs in the community, and has played for weddings, ceremonies, and special events for over a decade. She has been a choir member of the Utah Chamber Artists since 1999 and is also the Librarian and Administrative Assistant. In addition to teaching private piano lessons and musicianship classes, Barbara has been involved in arts administration holding positions such as the Administrative Coordinator for the Maurice Abravanel Visiting Distinguished Composers Series, and the Marketing Assistant for the Virtuoso Series at the University of Utah. Barbara is also involved in the Salt Lake Piano Competition.
An active member of the Utah Music Teachers Association, Barbara is a past president of the Jordan River chapter. She is Nationally Certified through the Music Teachers National Association and received her Permanent Professional Certified Teacher of Music status in 2015. Her students participate in a variety of performing experiences including the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) festivals. Saturday’s recital 6.14.2020 was a winner! I wore a mask and so did most of the audience members. We had plenty of wind and plenty of variety in the music choices and sounds. I’m waiting for more photos since I didn’t have a chance to take photos, clean the piano keys between each student, and remind them to use hand sanitizer. The auction was awesome! Everyone loved being able to compete for an item and then buy things from my tables with the money they had left over. Ruby earned the most money and Elena came in second.
Everyone loved this low key recital during this COVID-19 time. I shared a quote about resilience. My students definitely showed resilience as they were able to adjust to online lessons and then perform as if nothing had changed. Way to go!

What do you do when your technician takes your action? Play your digital piano for a week and anticipate the return of the acoustic! Thanks, Andrew Swan! My piano plays better and has less “extra” noise from loose bushings or whatever you fixed!
Congrats to Ruby, Kate, and Lucas for completing all the exercises in their technique books!

Welcome Ella and Maisie to the studio!

I forgot to send a message to my neighbors that I was having a recital and to hold off mowing the lawn for 45 minutes. Luckily, one of my neighbors heard clapping, performing, and super sounds coming from my backyard and waited to mow the lawn.

We had a great morning of movie and popular pieces, some crazy sound changes, and patriotic prizes!
