Gill Piano StudioBarbara Bryner Gill--Whether playing the piano or singing, Barbara has always enjoyed making music. She holds two music degrees from the University of Utah: a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, and a Master of Arts in Musicology. While attending the University of Utah her teachers included Barlow Bradford, Gladys Gladstone Rosenberg, and Vedrana Subotic.
Barbara regularly performs in the community, and has played for weddings, ceremonies, and special events for over a decade. She has been a choir member of the Utah Chamber Artists since 1999 and is also the Librarian and Administrative Assistant. In addition to teaching private piano lessons and musicianship classes, Barbara has been involved in arts administration holding positions such as the Administrative Coordinator for the Maurice Abravanel Visiting Distinguished Composers Series, and the Marketing Assistant for the Virtuoso Series at the University of Utah. Barbara is also involved in the Salt Lake Piano Competition.
An active member of the Utah Music Teachers Association, Barbara is a past president of the Jordan River chapter. She is Nationally Certified through the Music Teachers National Association and received her Permanent Professional Certified Teacher of Music status in 2015. Her students participate in a variety of performing experiences including the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) festivals. Barbara and her husband have three boys and a girl (named after a concert hall).
Combing studios with Stephanie Stuart was a real treat! Our students played many concerto movements and Stephanie and I played William Hirtz’ Wizard of Oz Fantasy!
The lion and Easter bunny duet cracked me up. A taco, money, and shark rounded out some fun costumes. 
Drew, Rachel, and Ruby also received a gift card to Cold Stone. Way to go! Summer is so sweet when you get “instrument time” and music skills.
Buster Keaton is one of my favorite comedians now! My student had the opportunity to participate in The BDAC fundraiser September 8 by performing music matching the scenes and moods of Buster Keaton’s “The Boat.” Kim Moody and Brianne Call combined with me to pull off this feat.
Ethan and I stayed for a few films afterward and laughed and laughed at “The Scarecrow.” I cant wait to do this festival again next year. Maybe we will have percussion instruments like Angela McBride’s group. Maybe we will dress differently. Maybe we will just laugh and love the experience again.
The wind was relentless today so instead of being outside, we set up in our newly painted garage. It turned out to be a great venue and we didn’t need to use insect repellent.
This evening recital started with “A Million Dreams” and ended with “Fly Me to the Moon.” Each performer selected sounds on the digital piano and I changed sounds and turned pages. Goodbye to Trevin and Damon! I’ve seen them weekly for four to five years.
Oh yes, the silent auction may have been a highlight. Students spent their music money on items each student brought as well as my patriotic themed treats: red, white, and blue Pringles, gum, licorice, etc. 
The University of Utah Piano Area opened up a spot for a community group and I took it! With 15 pianos and 30 performers I needed to recruit some friends to help. We had 9 teachers and 28 performers in the end.
Our group’s piece was “Fly Me to the Moon” and our percussionist added so much to the performance! It was an “Out if this World” event. Other highlights included the ET Theme and Star Wars groups.
We have been invited back for next year and I can hardly wait! Thank you Ben, Elena, Drew and Damon for taking extra time to be part of this exclusive experience.

I chose Ben and Elena to play in the chapter Honors Recital. It was held at the Farmington Library. I’m hoping my city gets a new library like this one!
I love having our solo festival at Gardner Hall. It was St. Patrick’s day so we had a treat for all the performers.
